Members of the Robertson Hall class of 1964 gathered at St. Augustine Beach, Florida in 2010 for a mini-reunion at the home of Carol Fitzpatrick Toman. Attending the reunion were (front, from left) Mary Carol Phillips Scholz, Wendy Schneck Bartos, (back, from left) Liz Davis Madigan, Carol Fitzpatrick Toman and Sally Yengo Gutowsky. Plans were made for another gathering in 2012 at the home of Liz Davis Madigan and for the 50th reunion in 2014 at the university.

Amid the stresses of making it to class in a timely fashion, it is easy to forget that the IDS core curriculum makes USAO what it is. While the liberal arts focus is what separates USAO from other public institutions in Oklahoma, it is the interdisciplinary approach of team teaching across disciplines that distinguishes it from other liberal arts universities, public and private, around the country.

Having accepted the challenge to lose weight to generate monies for the scholarship program, student Taryn Mazur and Sodexo manager Cynthia Richardson each brought home the grand prize of a 42-inch flat screen television.

Having accepted the challenge to lose weight to generate monies for the scholarship program, student Taryn Mazur and Sodexo manager Cynthia Richardson each brought home the grand prize of a 42-inch flat screen television.

They were competing against 54 students and staff in a pounds-for-dollars program called Make Marble Pay. The program ran through the Spring 2011 trimester at the University of Science and Arts.

The William Neill scholarship was founded in honor of Kay Neill Wint’s brother, a successful attorney who had to overcome considerable adversity in order to put himself through law school.

The William Neill scholarship was founded in honor of Kay Neill Wint’s brother, a successful attorney who had to overcome considerable adversity in order to put himself through law school.

“My brother is a perfect example of someone who had the potential to succeed but was also willing to work hard to overcome obstacles in order to achieve it,” Neill Wint said.

“After attending Stanford and Arizona State to get an accounting degree while working full time, Bill got turned down by the University of Southern California to study law.”

Phillip and Kay Neill Wint have established two new scholarships at USAO for the 2011-12 term, one in the name of William Neill and the other in honor of Dollie Fortenberry McDonald.

Phillip and Kay Neill Wint have established two new scholarships at USAO for the 2011-12 term, one in the name of William Neill and the other in honor of Dollie Fortenberry McDonald.

The Dollie Fortenberry McDonald Scholarship was founded in honor of her grandmother, who was a beloved housemother at the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf for several decades. Both scholarships are designed to aid students who have struggled in secondary schooling but can demonstrate that they have the initiative for a successful college experience.

More than 60 students from the University of Science and Arts partnered with local businesses for a day of volunteerism aimed at making a difference for Chickasha families and the institutions that serve them.

More than 60 students from the University of Science and Arts partnered with local businesses for a day of volunteerism aimed at making a difference for Chickasha families and the institutions that serve them.

Drovers invested a Friday this past March doing yardwork for homebound patients, reading to elementary children and improving city institutions in an event known as Drover Difference Day.

USAO Alumni Association was born on the afternoon of May 18, 1917, in the college library, then located on the third floor of the Administration Building. The purpose of the association was outlined in the second meeting in 1918 by President Emma Estill.

The OCLA Scholarship was established by the 13-member committee that planned the 2010 OCLA Reunion.

The OCLA Scholarship was established by the 13-member committee that planned the 2010 OCLA Reunion. The scholarship, for students majoring in one of the fine arts, is to honor the great experiment that was the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts.

In addition to the scholarship, several OCLA graduates initiated a fund to help restore the lodge at the College Farm. OCLA brought in the idea of team teaching, the trimester system and the core interdisciplinary studies program that makes USAO unique.

Two scholarships honoring the memory of the late Laron Short have been established: one, an annual scholarship for current students; the other, an endowed scholarship for future students.

Two scholarships honoring the memory of the late Laron Short have been established: one, an annual scholarship for current students; the other, an endowed scholarship for future students.

The two funds were established by 1949 graduate and emeriti faculty member Dr. Rose Marie Smith, alum and adjunct faculty member Tonnia Anderson and 2010 graduate JJ William Francais to honor Short, a communication alum who died May 24 from injuries sustained in the tornado that touched down in Chickasha.

 Long advertised as “located on a heavily-wooded national historic district,” USAO has now earned the national distinction of “Tree Campus USA” from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

 Long advertised as “located on a heavily-wooded national historic district,” USAO has now earned the national distinction of “Tree Campus USA” from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
 
The award, which recognizes tree care, was awarded to university representatives at the State Capitol. This is the first year USAO has participated in the program.

The Conover Sisters Scholarship was established by Mildred Conover Watson and Una Conover Teter.

The Conover Sisters Scholarship was established by Mildred Conover Watson and Una Conover Teter. Mildred was a member of the class of 1950 who received a degree in biology. Una graduated in 1952 with a degree in art.

The scholarship is established in honor of all four sisters that attended OCW – Mildred, Una, Shirley and Mary. Shirley Conover Weiss received her degree in English in 1954. Mary Conover graduated in 1957 with a degree in physical education.

Five scholarships have been established to honor members of the Good family by Yoshie Good of Chickasha.

Five scholarships have been established to honor members of the Good family by Yoshie Good of Chickasha. The Isaac and Mary Good Scholarships were established in 2011.

The Goods were early residents of Chickasha and served as civic, art and church leaders for more than a century. Early in the year 1900, Good became interested in land development in Oklahoma and established an extensive real estate business that was managed by his son, J.C. Good, and son-in-law, C. Schlotterbeck.
